Abstract: |
MCrAlY powder is sprayed by LPPS or alternatively by HVOF as a protective coating or as a bond coat of the TBC on hot section parts of the turbine. The resulting coatings of these different coating processes should behave similar in service. The protective life of a MCrAlY coating is dependant on the loss of the Aluminium of the coating. Al is consumed by the oxidation on the surface and by the diffusion into the substrate. After long term heat treatments in air the LPPS and HVOF sprayed CoNiCrAlY coatings show different behavior regarding Al consumption oxidation and diffusion. The different effects can be explained by the oxidation of Yttrium in the CoNiCrAlY powder during the HVOF process.
