Virtual Welding Training Systems (VWTS) are established in the international market for several years. A wide variety of technical implementations provide users with a wide range of VWTS. The presentation is intended to show the example of the GSI SLV Welding Trainer, what with a realistic effort is technically possible at the present and how the requirements of customers are met. There are possibilities of VWTs in general and their limits are shown, representing a meaningful economic framework for the development and manufacture of systems. The relation between development and the practical experiences in the Training of welders are shown.
