Abstract: |
Different approaches have to be utilized for future urban and inter-urban mobility. Urban mobility is mainly dominated by the electrification of the automotive sector. Inter-urban mobility will be mainly based on aerospace and railway solutions. However, urban as well as inter-urban mobility need environmentally-friendly and sustainable energy concepts to ensure a continuous chain in the sustainability of future mobility concepts.
Surface Technology is one of the core elements within Schaeffler´s strategic concept Mobility for Tomorrow. Major topics for surface technology in mobility applications are tribology and corrosion protection. However, in addition to these topics in some applications electricity induced damage plays a key role. Therefore, sophisticated and highly reliable solutions have to be provided for electrical insulation also under very harsh conditions.
This presentation will focus on the application of Thermal Spray coatings for electrical insulation on bearings for different mobility applications. As an integrated supplier for industry and automotive Schaeffler provides different solutions from its evaluated coating tool box. Here, examples will be given from successful application of Insutect® A coatings in wind energy, railway and automotive applications. Insutect® A is a newly developed Aluminumoxide spray coating with increased insulation performance also in humid environment. Moreover, also examples will be given from other applications where bearings are loaded with electrical current.
