 Abstract:
Thermal Spray is the most effective method for surface modification in industry. When the nanomaterials technology is applied in thermal spray, a novel technology of thermal spray is developed. Because the common nanoparticles are small in size, light in weight, they are easily to blow away by gas flow and ablate off, thus they are not suitable for thermal spray. Then fabricating nanostructured feedstock suitable for thermal spray through reconstitution process of common nanostructured particles becomes the key point.
In this paper, the nanostructured feedstocks were fabricated by three different reconstitution processes. After spray drying and loose sintering, plasma treatment is employed to reconstitution process. It can be seen that the density and flowability of reconstitution particles after plasma treatment are obviously increased. The plasma treated nanostructured coatings showed the best properties including adhesive strength, hardness, spalltion resistance in bend, thermal shock resistance, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and so on. Those improved properties are attributed to the net structure in the densified nanostructured coatings. Up to now, such reconstitution process becomes the necessary and important key technology during thermal spray. How to effective control the composition and nanostructure of feedstock is depended on the reconstitution process, by which different coatings can be fabricated.
