 Abstract:
The demand for high quality coatings, which are able to withstand the most extreme circumstances, are permanent. The span goes from equipment used in food production and pharmaceutical industry to more harsh environments, such as, offshore and power plant applications. The motivation is to expand service life, reduce shut down time and minimize potential migration of component material to products. Often a combination of several material properties are needed, which can be translated to a non-existing material.
This paper will introduce the laser cladding technique as well as laser fusing as a method of combining material properties. The focus will especially be at industrial applications where a practical method of solutions are sought after. These solutions should replace existing techniques and should at the same time allow simple methods of repair of coated parts in place for instance in a production line.

The paper will illuminate the manufacturing process of the surfaces on the specific applications, analyze the corrosion and wear properties of the produced coatings, exemplify real time usage showing the benefit of benefits of repair friendly surface.
