 Title:
SPS-APS composite coatings for use in thermal barrier coating systems

 Abstract:
Suspension plasma spray (SPS) coatings have demonstrated unique microstructures and properties not achievable by traditional air plasma spray (APS) processing methods. In contrast, SPS processing conditions generally result in decreased deposition rates and higher costs compared to APS coatings. The following work examines composite SPS and layered SPS/APS coatings that enable performance improvements while lessening production costs. Specifically, the processing and performance of thermal barrier coating (tbc) systems produced by SPS, APS, and composites methods are presented. The tbc coating performance is evaluated by furnace cycle testing (FCT), thermal conductivity, and erosion resistance due to the critical connection with engine performance and lifetime.
