Post-braze deep cooling of titanium brazed joints

 Abstract:
Deep cooling of CP Titanium and Ti-6Al-4V alloy brazed by the BTi-5 filler metal down to liquid nitrogen temperatures was studied to find out if the cryogenic treatment is suitable for improving shear strength of brazed joints. Mechanical properties of brazed joints and base metals after deep cooling and holding for 2, 4, and 6 hours at -196C are reported, as well as transformation of microstructures.
Effect of repeated solution+ageing heat treatment of Ti-6Al-4V alloy followed by another cooling cycle is also considered.
